I'm finally blogging again! Turns out that driving across the country and then unpacking/moving into a new house can be quite time consuming. We're not completely settled yet but as soon as we are we'll take pictures of the place. Now for pictures:
These are pictures of the big "projects" Andrew did as my dad's farm hand with help from my cousin, Larry. They built this room (framing, insulation, carpeting, the whole thing) inside the barn for my dad's food storage. I should also mention that this looks like a lot of food storage... This isn't even the HALF of it. My dad is prepared for the apocalypse...
Andrew also built this gate all by himself!
Ok. Now for pictures of our drive. My car started to have some real problems on the road so we pulled over in some city in Nebraska or Iowa (I don't remember) and since it was Sunday, nothing was open except for an auto parts store. We figured out that it was a problem with the spark plugs. While my dad and Andrew were fidgeting around trying to figure out what spark plugs were, these two "angels" as my dad calls them, came by and helped us first locate the spark plugs and told us how to replace them. (Moral of the story: Our "angels" were featured in wife beaters and tattoos so when you're in a pickle, keep an open mind!) :)
After the car was running smoothly, we were on the road again...
We made a stop in Nauvoo (of course) and went to the records office to find the location of the land my ancestors lived on! These are some pictures of that land!
We then visited the temple in all its glowing glory.
Then we went and toured some of the houses in Nauvoo...
...and ended our sightseeing for the day by walking the Trail of Hope.
After walking down the trail, we sat down and looked at the Mississippi river and did some modeling (naturally).
The next morning we got up early to visit Carthage jail. (FYI, for those that aren't LDS, Nauvoo and Carthage jail are historical and sacred sights to the church).
This is the window...
Bullet hole in the door...
Our last visit was on of Andrew's houses from his childhood in Reynoldsburg, Ohio.
It sure was a fantastic trip. After we made it to our place, Andrew's parents came and helped us move in! We absolutely love it here! More pictures to come!
oh my goodness, this was so fun to read. that picture of the nauvoo temple is stunning. it is actually glowing! (and you guys are glowing too of course)
ReplyDeleteWe are actually in IL right now, only 4 hours away and seeing those pictures is totally wanting me to take Dan down for the day. Looks like a wonderful journey!
I'm so jealous!! I've never been to any of those church sites or the area where Jake grew up, let alone his old house. Sounds like it was a great trip! And I love love love that you went to the records office to find the land your ancestors lived on and then took photos. Awesome!
